The Egyptians saw the planet, but werent impressed and they named it Har Decher, which means The Red One. The Romans called the planet Mars, naming it after the god of war. In 1609, Galileo was the first to see Mars through a telescope. The first map of Mars was drawn in 1659. Christiaan Huygens, in the late 1600s, was the first person to consider life on Mars. |
